Ronda Rousey, arguably the most famous female athlete in a combat sport saw her comeback hopes vanish when she was defeated in 48 seconds.  Fighting Amanda Nunes, she was rocked in the first few punches and never recovered.

Rousey showed little to no resilience as predatory Nunes stalked her landing shot after shot.  Herb Dean, Referee, stopped the fight after 48 seconds.  After a brief protest, Rousey left the cage consoled by her mother.

A triumphant Nunes said, “Forget about Ronda Rousey.  She’s going to go do movies. Forget about her. She has a lot of money already.”

The sell-out crowd was shocked at how fast Rousey was defeated.  It was her first fight since losing to Holly Holm in November 2015, which was her first career defeat.

When Rousey dominated UFC she became the most well known female athlete in the world.  Last night she was guaranteed a payout of $3m, while Nunes, $200,000. This Rousy’s first fight for over year.

When she lost to Holm in November 2015 it was one of the biggest upsets in the history of the sport.  Rousey a former Olympic judo medallist had never really been in trouble before winning a series of one sided fights.  Holm, however, who defeated her with a kick to the head made Rousey look amateurish and exposed flaws in her game.

History repeated itself last night, with Nunes dominant from the start.

Nunes is a worthy champion and claimed her belt through defeating Miesha Tate last July. In her early career Nunes lost three fights, but a strong work ethic and improving skills has seen her climb to the top.

Rousey prior to the fight had been concentrating on her acting career.  Since then the bantamweight belt changed hands twice.  She was persuaded to return to UFC to take another shot at the title.
