A tragic 10 year old girl who was allegedly raped and murdered by her own mother and her boyfriend had an STD when she died, a court has heard. Horrifying details revealed during the court case show that little Victoria Martens was strangled after being sexually abused.

The girl was found to have HPV, the human papillomavirus, which added to evidence that she was subjected to an ordeal of sexual abuse, before she died last August, just after her 10th birthday. Her own mother, Michelle Martens, 35, has been charged with murder and rape, as has her boyfriend, Fabian Gonzales, 32, and his cousin Jessica Kelley, 32.

The allegedly twisted trio are accused of subjecting the young girl to terrifying abuse before killing her. Rather than helping her daughter, the mother is alleged to have looked on as her boyfriend raped and strangled her daughter. He and his cousin are then accused of trying to get rid of the body by dismembering her and then setting her on fire in the bath. The court has heart that Martens then had sex with Gonzales after he had killed her daughter. The couple had only got together a month before the death, having met on an online dating app. The mother is understood to have told police officers that she deliberately searched online for men who would have sex with her daughter.

Was she drugged?

Police officers said they thought that the girl, from New Mexico, had been drugged with methamphetamine, although toxicology reports only found alcohol. The autopsy also found that there was physical evidence that rape had taken place.

A memorial service was held last year when heartbroken mourners dressed in purple, the little girl’s favourite colour, to pay tribute to her. Meanwhile, Victoria’s grandparents are said to be standing by their daughter, despite the allegations she is facing.
